The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2020 Planning and Developing Infrastructure to Promote the Mental Health of Children, Youth and Families in American Indian/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) Communities (Short Title: Circles of Care) grants. The purpose of this program is to provide tribal and urban Indian communities with tools and resources to plan and design a holistic, evidence and community-based, coordinated system of care to support mental health for children, youth, and families. These grants are intended to increase the capacity and effectiveness of mental health systems serving AI/AN communities. Circles of Care grant recipients will focus on the need to reduce the gap between the need for mental health services and the availability of such services for the target population. The program has a strong emphasis on cross-system collaboration, inclusion of family, youth and community resources, and cultural approaches.

Screen Our Circle (SOC) is a National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It aims to increase cancer screenings and early detection rates in urban AI/AN clinics across the nation, ultimately reducing the impacts of breast and cervical cancer in Indian Country. SOC provides support to urban AI/AN clinics and assists in removing screening barriers by raising awareness of cancer burdens and solutions, promoting health system changes, and performing community education and outreach activities.

This opportunity is targeting emerging projects that focus on developing Tribal Food Sovereignty. Through the first round of the Gather Food Sovereignty Grant, First Nations expects to award up to 8 grant awards of approximately $32,000 to support Native American-led food sovereignty work.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2020 for the Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Navigator Program for Racial/Ethnic Minorities (Short Title: Prevention Navigator). The purpose of this program is to provide services to those at highest risk for HIV and substance use disorders. The program proposes to use a navigation approach (Community Health Workers, Neighborhood Navigators, and Peer Support Specialists) to expedite services for these populations. The program will provide training and education around the risks of substance misuse, provide education on HIV/AIDS, and provide needed linkages to service provision for individuals with HIV.
